The first thing i noticed while watching this movie was how they used sheep as a metaphor to explain some human behavior. I was surprised when I found out in their culture that sheep are also used for some people who are not thinking for themselves and just follow the others. The same goes for us as well. In Türkiye some people also use this word (sheep) for a specific group of people. Especially in politics as we all know. So choosing the sheep as the lead role is genius and kinda ironic in a way.
The second thing was how they handled the discrimination in the movie. It is the winter lambs that I'm talking about. I'm not gonna go into details because you know i told you before that my English isn't good enough to talk about deep topics. But I'll say this one thing even in the herds there are some who feel that they do not belong there. Not because they don't want to but because the others don't accept them as they are. So sooner or later the winter lambs leave the herd. And still get criticized for it. It looks like staying or leaving doesn't matter they never get the respect they deserve. I am happy it wasn't the case in this movie. And i think it's so interesting that they decided to choose black for the color of the winter sheep. Again, ironic...
The third thing was how they approached death. I think they beautifully dealt with it. How they want to forget about everything after experiencing the pain after someone's death. We see the five stages of grief through the sheep. And also the dialogue between lily the sheep and George the shepherd hits hard when lily asked George if he is really there and George answered of course i am because you didn't forget me. Just thinking about this quote makes me emotional.
Beside all of this the story was just a bonus for us I think. Solving the case never was the main aim. The title of detective could be used for two things. One for finding the murderer of course and the other for finding themselves; coming face to face with reality, stepping outside of their comfort zone and more...
It doesn't look that deep when you first watch the movie but after thinking about it you came to realize that it really is a psychological and a sociological film.
